According to Global Info Analytics, recent polls indicate that the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, is exerting a weakening influence on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in anticipation of the 2024 election.
Alan Kyerematen, a former presidential aspirant of the NPP, has chosen to run as an independent candidate for the 2024 election, adopting the butterfly as his symbol. Joining him as an independent contender is businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as Freedom Jacob Caesar.
Both candidates express optimism about their chances of success in the upcoming election, aiming to disrupt the established dominance of the two major parties in the country.
In an interview on the Morning Starr with Francis Abban, Musah Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, shared insights into the electoral landscape.
He noted that while Alan Kyerematen is making an impact, his influence appears to be predominantly affecting the NPP rather than penetrating the voter base of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dankwa stated, “As a pollster I wish we have a four party system where nobody can control this country and take it for granted. But the numbers we are seeing are not showing that radical departure from what we are used to. Although Alan is making an impact, the question is who is he affecting with his performance? If Alan was able to break the front of NDC that would be a good thing for him to have at the moment he is not able to break the front of NDC. Whatever gains he is making it is coming largely from the NPP which is making NPP weaker at the minute in the polls,”
Highlighting the importance of Alan Kyerematen making inroads into the NDC base and appealing to floating voters, Dankwa emphasized that without such developments, the existing two-party system is likely to persist in governing the country.
