InsiderGH.com has received reports indicating that seven biometric devices belonging to the Electoral Commission, intended for voter registration and verification ahead of the EC’s limited voter registration exercise, have gone missing.
This revelation came to light through Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during a press briefing in Parliament on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Expressing concern over the disappearance, the Minority in Parliament is calling for prompt intervention from the police to investigate the matter. They fear potential consequences for the upcoming December polls if the missing devices are not recovered swiftly.
During the press briefing on Tuesday, March 19, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasized the urgency for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Service to expedite efforts in locating the whereabouts of the seven missing biometric devices.
“The Electoral Commission confirms that seven of the biometric devices are indeed missing. I urge the CID and the Ghana Police Service to immediately issue a statement giving us the details of their investigation so far.
“I am concerned and worried because those devices in the hands of an unknown person can compromise the future elections that Ghana will have.
“Who knows whether this is in the hands of a political party? And who knows what that political party is doing with it? I am disturbed,” he added.
