Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah is reportedly lacing his boots to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) seat in the 2024 elections.
A social media post by the spokesperson of the Ayew family, Fiifi Tackie indicates that the former Juventus star will compete for the seat as an independent candidate.
On Friday, April 26, 2024, it was announced on X (previously known as Twitter) that Stephen Appiah intends to run as an independent Parliamentary candidate in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
Should his candidacy be verified, Stephen Appiah will be entering the political arena alongside Frederick Acheampong, an Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association. Both are prominent figures in football seeking parliamentary seats in the upcoming election.
Frederick Acheampong emerged victorious in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries for the Ahafo Ano South East constituency, securing 164 votes to represent the NPP in the 2024 general elections.
In the contest for the AWW seat, Stephen Appiah will face competition from Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP and John Dumelo of the NDC.
