Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding figure of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has provided insights into the incident that strained his once-amicable relationship with President Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with veteran broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) on the April 26, 2024, episode of the KSM Show, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe highlighted the origins of his discord with Akufo-Addo, which emerged during the lead-up to the election of party executives in 2014.
He recounted how Akufo-Addo, then the flagbearer and leader of the NPP, took steps to prevent Paul Afoko, a former national chairman of the party, from participating in the polls.
“I have known Nana Addo for years but what brought the difference between me and him was when under his leadership, we were having elections in Tamale to elect new executives (the National Chairman, his deputies and others) and everything was made possible for Paul Afoko not to be part of that election.”
“But finally Paul Afoko became part of the election and won. Mind you, he (Afoko) was not appointed, he was elected by the people of the party and yet they found ways and means to move him out,” he said.
He continued, “That was when I said my friend Nana Addo was not the Nana Addo I knew anymore”.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe reiterated that President Akufo-Addo no longer embodies the integrity and honesty he once did, as perceived by him and others.
“The Nana Addo that I knew was simple, straight to the point. I’m not the only one who has known Nana Addo for a long time. We were all friends but to me, the person we have in the Flagstaff House is not the Nana Addo that I know.”
