The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Walewale Constituency has lambasted the Electoral Commission of Ghana for what it perceives as a flagrant display of bias in the allocation of registration centers within the Walewale constituency.
In a press statement signed by the Communication Officer of the NDC in Walewale, Mr. Mashood Issifu Mahama, the party condemned what it perceives as the Electoral Commission’s disregard for the legitimate needs of communities such as Arigu, Kurugu, Mimima, and Shelinvoya.
These areas, characterized by significant challenges in accessing registration centers, have been overlooked in favor of locations situated in NPP strongholds like Nasia, Fungu, Daboya, and Yama.
The NDC alleges that the allocation of registration centers in areas aligned with the NPP constitutes a deliberate strategy to disenfranchise certain segments of the population.
By neglecting genuinely hard-to-reach communities in favor of more accessible NPP strongholds, the Electoral Commission is accused of undermining the democratic rights of citizens and compromising the integrity of the electoral process.
Expressing deep concern over what it perceives as the Electoral Commission’s alignment with partisan interests, the NDC asserts that such actions erode public trust and credibility in Ghana’s democracy.
The party vows to resist any attempts by the NPP and the Electoral Commission to manipulate the electoral process for their own benefit, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rights of all citizens to participate in free and fair elections.
Calling for immediate corrective measures, the NDC demands that the Electoral Commission rectifies the injustice by ensuring equal access to the electoral process for all communities within the Walewale constituency.
The NDC warms that the EC’s failure to address these concerns will only exacerbate the erosion of public confidence in the electoral system.
In response to the perceived injustice, the NDC urges electorates within the Walewale constituency to mobilize and demand accountability from the Electoral Commission.
The party vows to continue its advocacy until every citizen’s right to participate in democratic processes is safeguarded.
