A group calling itself Concerned Youth of Western Region has taken a swipe at Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh over the statement he issued as an apology for his claims that President Akufo-Addo was a superior president to the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
At his outdooring ceremony, the former education minister said no president in Ghana’s history has performed better than ‘your Kwame Nkrumah’.
This language he used made several individuals from different political divides slam him and demand an apology.
He later paid a courtesy call to some chiefs in the Western, where he reaffirmed his statement, explaining that he spoke the truth but was taken out of context.
On Friday, July 11, 2024, he issued a statement indicating he expressed a personal opinion and did not mean to denigrate the late Kwame Nkrumah.
He then apologised, but the concerned youth of Western say the apology was insincere.
They have therefore asked him to offer a public apology.
Prof. Boakye Yiadom, a member of the group, said they would not accept his apology and should have asked him to come and apologise unreservedly for his comments.
He noted that the former minister must apologise so Ghanaians will know he has repented.
He called on chiefs in the Western Region to come together and prevent him and his party from campaigning in the region if he refuses to offer a public apology.
He maintained that “we believe that NAPO should come again and apologise unreservedly for us to know that he has repented… We will not accept his apology. We believe that Western regional chiefs should come together and also protest strongly against Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to render an unqualified apology to the Western region, the people, and Ghana as a whole because he is entitled to organise his campaign in the region.”
