A tragic armed robbery on the Gomoa Dasum-Agona Kwanyarko road in the Central Region left one person dead and several others wounded on the evening of Friday, September 7, 2024. The deceased, identified as Fuseini Ishmaila, a driver, was shot by armed robbers during the attack, which targeted over 15 vehicles.
The robbery, carried out by a group of six armed men, began around 8:00 pm and lasted for nearly an hour. The robbers blocked the road, forcing drivers and passengers out of their vehicles and making away with thousands of cedis, mobile phones, and other valuables.
Eyewitnesses reported that despite repeated calls for police assistance, no help arrived. This prompted some local residents to confront the robbers, armed with locally manufactured guns. Faced with resistance from the residents, the robbers fled the scene.
The body of Fuseini Ishmaila has been taken to the mortuary for autopsy, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. The police have since been informed of the incident and an investigation is underway.
