Chaos erupted at Metro TV this morning as a group of armed men stormed the station’s premises in an audacious attempt to invade the studio and interrupt the live broadcast of Good Morning Ghana.
The incident occurred this morning while the popular morning show was underway, hosted by Dr. Randy Abbey and his panel of guests. Eyewitnesses report that the assailants arrived in a black SUV, brandishing weapons, and forced their way through the main security gate.
According to security personnel on duty, the attackers, who allegedly came withsome policemen, appeared to be targeting the studio directly, demanding access to the live broadcast room. The station’s quick-thinking security team activated emergency protocols, locking down key areas and notifying the police immediately.
“One of the men threatened to harm us if we didn’t lead them to the studio,” said an eyewitness, a Metro TV staff member who managed to escape unhurt. “It was terrifying, but we kept calm and followed safety measures.”
According to Dr. Randy Abbey in a short clip sighted by InsiderGh.com after the incident, some of the private security men at Metro TV were injured.
Staff and panelists who were in the studio at the time are said to be shaken but safe.
The motive for the invasion remains unclear, but speculation is rife that it may be politically motivated, given the station’s critical discussions of national issues on its flagship morning show.
