The University of Ghana Distance Education Tertiary Institutions Network (UGDE TEIN), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Subin Constituency, organized a public awareness walk in Kumasi to educate citizens on proper voting procedures ahead of the upcoming elections.
Purpose of the Walk
The initiative is part of the NDC’s broader efforts to ensure that voters are informed and well-prepared to participate effectively in the elections. By focusing on voter education, the organizers aim to minimize the incidence of rejected ballots and improve electoral transparency.
Albert Davids, President of the NDC Students’ Wing at UGDE, highlighted the importance of this campaign during an interview with OTEC FM. “Our primary goal is to educate the public on the voting process to reduce rejected ballots. We want to ensure that every vote cast is valid and contributes to the democratic process,” Davids explained.
The Route and Activities
The walk began at the Subin Constituency office and covered key areas in Kumasi, including Asafo, Kejetia, and Adum, before returning to the starting point. Throughout the event, participants engaged with the public, distributing educational materials and offering guidance on correct voting practices.
Maame Akosuah Gyamfuaa Sunday and Ama Boahemaa Gyasi, representatives of the organizing team, also reiterated the importance of this initiative in equipping citizens with the knowledge needed to make their votes count.
A Broader Impact
The collaboration between UGDE TEIN, the NDC Ashanti Regional Secretariat, and the Subin Constituency underscores the party’s commitment to empowering citizens with the tools needed for effective participation in Ghana’s democratic process. Events like these not only foster voter education but also strengthen civic engagement across the region.
With Election Day approaching, the NDC continues to demonstrate its dedication to ensuring an informed and inclusive electoral process.
