President-elect John Dramani Mahama has addressed concerns regarding the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, emphasizing that it is not intended as a political tool for targeting individuals.
During a meeting with the Canadian High Commission in Ghana on Thursday, December 19, 2024, Mr. Mahama explained the committee’s purpose and objectives.
“I announced the preparatory committee, I think people are misunderstanding it. We’re receiving a lot of information on things that are going wrong, or things, I mean, corruption scandals and all that,” he stated.
“We want a focal point where all evidence on corruption scandals or misconduct can be directed. ORAL is not investigating people but compiling evidence for government agencies tasked with such duties.”
He also clarified that members of the committee would not receive any financial benefits for their work.
“They are doing the service as pro bono, they are not receiving any allowances, there’s no expenditure or budget associated with the task that they are carrying out,” Mr. Mahama noted.
His remarks come amid public speculation about the committee’s activities and concerns about potential government funding for its operations.
