The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the resumption of re-collation of election results in specific constituencies, supported by heightened security measures to ensure a smooth and orderly process.
In a joint effort, the Ghana Armed Forces and the Police Service have been tasked with maintaining security and preventing disruptions during the exercise. This development follows concerns over tensions surrounding the collation and declaration of election results in disputed constituencies.
The National Election Security Task Force officially announced the deployment of the military on Friday, December 20. Speaking on behalf of the task force, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, emphasized that the security agencies are committed to creating a safe environment for the EC to carry out its mandate without interference.
“Following the tensions surrounding the collation and declaration of election results, security agencies have been tasked with creating a conducive environment for the EC to carry out its duties without interference,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stated.
The EC’s re-collation exercise seeks to address disputes and anomalies identified in certain constituencies, with a focus on ensuring accuracy and upholding democratic principles.
EC officials have reassured stakeholders of their impartiality and commitment to transparency, urging all political parties and their supporters to remain calm and cooperative throughout the process.
Meanwhile, the public has been advised to steer clear of collation centres to avoid unnecessary confrontations and to allow security personnel to effectively manage the situation.
The re-collation is being closely monitored, with many hoping the exercise will bring resolution to the disputes and reinforce trust in Ghana’s electoral system.
