Angry supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) wreaked havoc on the party’s Sagnarigu constituency office in the Northern Region, venting their frustration on Friday afternoon.
The infuriated youth alleged that the constituency executives unjustly denied them access to nomination forms for Dr. Wahab Alhassan, as they suspect the executives are trying to ensure Madam Felicia Tettey runs unchallenged in the upcoming elections.
The contentious decision ignited their anger, leading to the damaging of the party office as a strong warning. The agitated youth even threatened to vote against Madam Felicia if she is allowed to proceed unopposed.
Abdallah Murjana, a vocal member of the supporters, expressed his discontent, revealing that unresolved issues from the 2020 elections are being repeated, compounding their frustration.
This incident showcases the escalating tensions within the party and the demand for fairness and inclusivity in the political process.
“There were a lot of problems during the last election, and we raised concerns, but the party did not mind us. The exact problem in the constituency right now is that the party leadership wants Madam Felicia Tetteh to go unopposed without consultation.”
“We went to the party’s office this morning to pick up nomination forms, and it was locked. We called them, and they said they were coming, and we waited there for two hours, but they never came. We called Sheikh Abdul Kareem, and he told us to go and come tomorrow and this is not the NPP party that we used to know.”
“It is Dr. Wahab’s right to pick up a form, and it is our right to support whoever we want to support and so for peace to reign, they should allow anyone that wants to contest to pick up nomination forms,” he added.
