The official website of theGa North Municipal Assemblyin the Greater Accra Region has been compromised, with hackers gaining access to alter certain parts of the website.
As a result of the alteration, the hackers have been able to display advertisements for escort services (prostitution) on the website.
The Planning Unit section of the website, located at gnma.gov.gh, now contains hidden content promoting escort services linked to Dubai.
According to a researcher who reported this incident to GhanaWeb, he discovered the issue while working on a project related to the websites of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country.
The researcher highlighted the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Government spent so much on building websites and the developers or hackers have exchanged the information with prostitution adverts for months without anyone knowing.”
Upon closer examination of the compromised Ga North Municipal Assembly website, GhanaWeb identified two main sections that had been affected by the hack: the Ga North Statistics Department and the Development Planning Unit.
While the original content of these sections before the hack is not immediately known, the current content of the Development Planning Unit section contains explicit material promoting Dubai-based escort services.
Similarly, under the Ga North Statistics Department, new information unrelated to the municipal statistics has been inserted, discussing issues related to Mac computers and system performance.
The researcher who reported this issue also noted that other websites have been affected by similar hacks.
