The just-ended Super Delegates’ Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) witnessed an unexpected twist as former President John Agyekum Kufuor‘s involvement emerged in a cloud of mystery.
Anticipated to exercise his voting rights at the NPP Headquarters, the Gentle Giant and revered party member remained conspicuously absent.
Despite his status as a former President and a card-bearing member in good standing, Kufuor’s physical absence at the polls prompted speculations and raised eyebrows among party faithful.
While concrete reasons for his no-show have not been established, the party introduced the provision for proxy voting in this conference. Some delegates opted for this alternative, as exemplified by Kwabena Agyapong voting on behalf of Otiko Afisa Djaba, the former National Women Organiser of the party.
The Election Committee of the NPP, alongside the former President’s office, is yet to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding Kufuor’s unexpected absence from this critical electoral event.
The NPP headquarters, the designated voting venue for Kufuor, hosted a total of 204 delegates, including party founders, card-bearing ministers of state, and esteemed party members in good standing.
Ultimately, the results of the polls showcased Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the triumphant contender, garnering over 80% of the total votes cast. Meanwhile, Mr. John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten secured 25 votes, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged with 107 votes, Kennedy Agyapong received 3 votes, Boakye Agyako secured no votes, and Francis Addai Nimo tallied 6 votes.
The absence of the revered former President Kufuor at this significant event continues to raise inquiries, leaving party members and observers eagerly awaiting official explanations from both the Election Committee and the former President’s office.
