The retirement of Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Boakye and his subsequent failure to secure the promotion to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) have raised eyebrows, with allegations surfacing that his career trajectory may have been influenced by a past incident involving the arrest of the Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has publicly disclosed that COP Kofi Boakye’s actions during the opposition period of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) played a significant role in his career’s turn of events within the police service.
During an exclusive studio interview with Mr. Gordon Asare-Bediako on Movement TV’s Bekyere Mu Show, which was closely monitored by InsiderGH.com, Chairman Wontumi revealed that COP Kofi Boakye had been nicknamed “IGP” during the NPP’s opposition period, even though he held the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).
However, Wontumi claimed that COP Kofi Boakye’s aspirations for the top police role were thwarted due to his handling of certain situations during the NPP’s opposition period.
“Kofi Boakye, when the NPP was in opposition, used to be called IGP. His dream failed to materialize on the very day he arrested me. He saw Canaan but he never stepped foot there,” Chairman Wontumi stated during the interview.
