In response to recent allegations made by former presidential aspirant Alan Kyerematen, Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has categorically dismissed claims that the party manipulated its Super Delegates Conference held last month in favor of any specific presidential candidate.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express in an interview monitored by InsiderGH.com, Haruna Mohammed addressed Mr. Kyerematen’s assertions, stating that the former aspirant was well aware of the composition of the delegates well before the conference took place.
According to Mr. Mohammed, no deliberate efforts were made to manipulate the conference in favor of any particular candidate, and the party upheld the principles outlined in its constitution.
“Article 13 1.9 of the party’s constitution describes the composition of the delegates to the super delegates conference. It’s predetermined…and this is very clear, nobody had skewed any delegates conference to an individual,” affirmed the Deputy General Secretary.
Alan Kyerematen recently announced his withdrawal from the NPP’s flagbearer race, citing various reasons including claims of intimidation, violence against a member of his campaign team, and allegations that the party strategically organized the Super Delegates Conference to favor one candidate over others.
Mr. Kyerematen argued that the statements made by certain party members both before and after the elections lent credibility to his concerns.
“After having carefully analyzed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during, and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favor of one particular Aspirant,” said Mr. Kyerematen in a statement.
Addressing these concerns, Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed assured that the party is not taking the issue of violence lightly. He mentioned that the matter has been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for further investigation and appropriate action.
“The General Secretary of the party took it upon himself to petition the committee responsible to look at this matter – that is the disciplinary committee – and mentioned names and cited some pockets of violence that happened in some centers that have been brought to his attention,” Mr. Mohammed explained.
The NPP continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Super Delegates Conference and Mr. Kyerematen’s withdrawal, raising questions about the party’s internal processes and unity as they prepare for the upcoming presidential primaries.
