In a tragic and harrowing turn of events, a dire situation unfolded today as two fishing boats capsized in the Ada estuary of the Greater Accra Region, leaving seven fishermen missing and prompting a swift response from authorities.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and the Ghana Navy have launched a collaborative search and rescue operation with utmost urgency to locate and bring back the missing fishermen. Chief Naval Officer 1, Robert Lamptey, Eastern Naval Commander, confirmed the heart-wrenching incident. He reported that one of the ill-fated boats, named “Shalom,” was carrying 11 individuals when it encountered a massive and unforgiving wave, leading to its fateful capsizing. Fortunately, 10 of the occupants were successfully rescued, but one remains tragically unaccounted for.
Furthermore, another boat, “Barcelona,” succumbed to the relentless force of the waves, ultimately washing up in a Volta Region community. Two fortunate individuals from the community managed to escape the turmoil, but six fishermen from “Barcelona” are currently missing. Despite suffering significant damage, the boat itself was eventually recovered.
