A harrowing incident in Sokoban, a Kumasi suburb, has shaken the community as John Allister, a 22-year-old house help, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a businesswoman.
The victim, identified as Efia Ahenkan, was the wife of the son of the legendary Ghanaian footballer, Reverend Osei Kofi.
Arrest and Ongoing Investigations
Peace FM’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Samson Kwame Nyamekye, confirmed the arrest during an Evening News broadcast on September 14, 2023. According to Nyamekye, John Allister is currently in police custody, cooperating with authorities as they conduct ongoing investigations.
Reports suggest that John Allister fled the crime scene in the victim’s car, carrying various items belonging to the deceased. Shockingly, he also took the deceased’s phone and impersonated her, sending messages to friends and acquaintances.
Nyamekye reported, “The police faced significant challenges before they were able to retrieve the victim’s body from the house, but I can confirm to Peace News that there is good news that John Allister has been arrested by the police this afternoon, and he is in police custody, assisting in investigations.”
Video Evidence
A video circulating on social media shows John Allister in handcuffs, undergoing interrogation by an unidentified individual regarding the whereabouts of the stolen items. In the video, Allister admits to selling everything he took from the victim’s residence and offers to provide contact information for the person who purchased the items.
Chilling Details
Sports broadcaster Dan Kwaku Yeboah, on September 14, 2023, revealed chilling details of the incident. He explained that Efia Ahenkan, also known as Princess Efia, was allegedly stabbed by her house help, whom she had employed just months ago.
Dan Kwaku Yeboah reported, “The family of Reverend Osei Kofi is in deep sorrow now because the wife of his London-based son has been killed. The man wanted his wife to have the freedom to undertake her business activities, so he recruited a house help through an agency. The name of the house help was John Allister, and he was being paid through the agency.”
He continued, “On Friday, she was having a conversation with her friend when the said friend heard her scream that she has been stabbed. The phone went dead, and her number went off, so the following day, the friend sent a police team to the house in Kumasi.”
Yeboah further described the grim scene at the house, stating, “Upon getting to the house, they realized that the dog in the house had been released, and the body of the lady was lying in the garage. The car in the garage had been driven away by the house help.”
The shocking incident has left the community in mourning and has prompted extensive investigations to uncover the full extent of the tragedy.
