In a shocking turn of events, chaos unfolded during the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise in Agona West Constituency, with accusations of a cutlass attack levied against Sam Toys, the organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team reportedly fell victim to the violence and now lies in critical condition. The unsettling incident transpired at the Agona West office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Central Region.
NDC’s Deputy Organiser in the constituency, Samuel Ametepey, who was purportedly an eyewitness to the incident, expressed profound disappointment. He placed blame on the EC for the escalating turmoil and affirmed that his party would not relent until the registration process concludes.
Amidst the allegations, Isaac Somuah, the Agona West NPP Communications Director, vehemently denied the accusations against Sam Toys. According to Somuah, “Toys did not hit the victim’s head. Zion’s account is false, he was not present… It was a fight between the two people, and they both crashed into a car’s bonnet. That is how come his head hit something and resulted in the wound.” He emphasized that Toys also fell from the car onto the ground, and the altercation ended with their separation.
Additionally, Somuah dismissed claims that the NPP received police support to manipulate the registration process.
Nevertheless, the constituency’s NDC Communications Officer, Wahab Mukaila, conveyed a resolute message to the press. He stated that his party is prepared to defend itself if the police fail to provide adequate protection.
