Hon. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called upon the international community to closely follow and engage in the current limited voters registration exercise.
Speaking passionately to journalists at the registration center in Hohoe on Thursday, September 21, 2023, Mr. James Gunu emphasized the importance of international interest not only during the general elections on December 7 but also throughout the crucial processes leading up to the election.
According to him, the credibility of an election hinges on the fairness, transparency, and integrity of the preceding processes, particularly voter registration and voter exhibition.
He asserted that without these critical steps being conducted freely and fairly, the legitimacy of the entire election could be compromised.
Therefore, he urged the international community to take a keen interest in the ongoing nationwide registration exercise.
He believes that Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other continental and international organizations who collaborate to oversee elections across the African continent, have a huge role to play in ensuring the credibility of the ongoing limited voters registration exercise throughout the country.
Furthermore, Mr. Gunu took the opportunity to motivate first-time voters across the country especially the ones in the Volta Region, encouraging them to visit their respective registration centers and complete the registration process.
He emphasized the significance of obtaining an ID card, underscoring that it serves as an essential tool through which Ghanaians can collectively secure for themselves another independence on December 7, 2024.
