On a day that held both significance and disappointment, former Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Rachel Appoh, has announced her withdrawal from the Parliamentary Primaries in the Constituency.
This decision by Rachel Appoh was precipitated by the medical assessment provided by her doctors, which declared her unfit to participate in the primaries.
In a heartfelt Facebook post made on Friday, October 6, 2023, which also marked her birthday, the former Deputy Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection expressed her sadness over the unfortunate situation.
“It saddens my heart that on the 6th October, 2023, which is the day for opening nominations for NDC Parliamentary Primaries in Gomoa Central Constituency and also doubles as my Birthday, I was intrigued to contest. But it’s unfortunate that for the past Eight (8) to Ten (10) months, I have had three accidents that nearly took my life,” Ms. Appoh lamented.
Continuing, she shared, “Looking at the current challenges battling my health, Doctors advise that I cannot contest the upcoming primaries.”
Despite the setback, Rachel Appoh extended her deep gratitude to the party’s Executives and Delegates for their overwhelming support when she initially declared her intent to contest the primaries a few months ago. She acknowledged their unwavering love and expressed her heartfelt appreciation.
She also conveyed her best wishes for peaceful elections to the people of Gomoa Central NDC, emphasizing that a victory for any aspirant is a victory for the entire party. Ms. Appoh pledged her wholehearted support to any candidate who emerges as the winner, reaffirming her commitment to the overall success of the NDC in the upcoming 2024 Election.
Taking advantage of her birthday, the former Gender Minister used the occasion to remind women to undergo breast cancer screening. She encouraged all women to take this step, highlighting the significance of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
As Rachel Appoh steps away from the political race, her focus remains on her health and supporting the NDC’s collective efforts for success in the upcoming elections
