Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu in Ghana, has playfully taunted Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, who is a cousin of the president, by using the label “Prime Minister” assigned to Gabby in political circles.
Ablakwa had previously alleged that Gabby was representing a firm making a 187 million cedis claim against the state. Ablakwa had also stated that his “Kitchen Scandal” exposé caused the suspension of the payment demand.
Gabby had shared a story about Ablakwa’s claim on Twitter, suggesting that Ablakwa was merely amusing himself with his allegations. Ablakwa responded to Gabby’s tweet on August 15, stating: “Prime Minister in Pains and Tears. What really matters is the incontrovertible fact that the ‘Kitchen Scandal’ exposé has saved Ghanaians a staggering GHS187.3 million. Cash-out aborted! We successfully saved the battered public purse. For God & Country. Ghana First.”
Gabby’s initial tweet had stated: “Laughable. You created a ‘scandal’ against your own NDC! You’ve made Ken Ofori-Atta look good for ‘standing up’ 2yrs against his ‘influential’ cousin, representing a client with a good case over a contract President Mahama awarded, which you now question!”
The “Kitchen Scandal” exposé by Ablakwa alleged that Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a cousin of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was seeking payment of GH¢187.3 million judgment debt to his client, West Blue, despite changes to the contract by the current government. Ablakwa’s exposé was aimed at shedding light on corruption and alleged nepotism within the government.
Ablakwa clarified that his exposés are not meant to make him popular or the government unpopular. Instead, he stated that his primary aim is to protect the interests of Ghanaians and hold the executive branch accountable for the management of the nation’s resources.
He cited the example of his “Kitchen Scandal” exposé, which he claimed helped save the nation GH¢187 million in judgment debt.
