In a recent development, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Head of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has refuted claims suggesting that Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, applied for a plea bargain in the ongoing €2.3 million ambulance case against him.
In an interview on Citi Prime News, Dr. Ato Forson’s legal representative vehemently denied these allegations, branding them as baseless and unfounded. He urged the public to dismiss such rumors.
Addressing the issue, he stated, “Let me say this with all the vehemence required, Cassiel Ato Forson has not applied either to the court or the Attorney General for a plea bargain. Any claim that he has put in a request for a plea bargain is completely false and a lie from the pit of hell.”
He clarified that it was actually the third accused individual, Richard Dzakpa, who had applied for a plea bargain. Furthermore, he emphasized that Mr. Forson’s legal team had communicated to the Attorney General that they would not follow the same path as Mr. Dzakpa.
This decision was based on the absence of conspiracy charges in the case, which meant that each party involved should be treated separately regarding plea bargains.
“The third accused person, in the person of Richard Dzakpa, formally applied to the court for a plea bargain, and the Office of the Attorney General reached out to us to know whether we are opposed or have any objection to Mr. Dzakpa entering into a plea bargain. We indicated to them that there is no conspiracy charge, and so everybody is on his own. If Mr. Dzakpa wants a plea, we don’t care,” he explained.
