Smith Danquah Buttey, the Second National Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), hints at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s potential running mate choice causing shockwaves among the public.
Amidst speculations and names circulating as likely picks, including Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Buttey suggests that Dr. Bawumia might opt for a candidate far from the public’s anticipation.
Drawing parallels to Nana Addo’s surprise selection of Bawumia in the past, Buttey suggests that the Vice President’s decision may diverge significantly from the widely discussed names.
Contrary to the speculated candidates, Buttey claims knowledge of 13 additional contenders who, although not in the public domain, are reportedly in contention for the coveted running mate position.
In a related development, the NPP’s National Executive Council, on December 6, 2023, granted a request by the flagbearer to extend the deadline for naming a running mate. This extension aligns with the party’s constitution, which mandates Dr. Bawumia to announce his running mate a year before the scheduled December 7, 2024 polls.
