Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a former Deputy Minister of Information, has expressed his belief that Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has significantly harmed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s campaign to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Kennedy Agyapong, who also aspires to be the NPP’s flagbearer, criticized the government’s handling of the local currency, blaming it for poor management.
He revealed that between March and August of 2022, the value of his $40 million in Cedi equivalent had dropped to $16 million due to the Cedi’s depreciation.
Although Kennedy Agyapong did not explicitly mention any names, Bawumia, who is the head of the economic management team and a fellow flagbearer hopeful, is often held responsible for the Cedi’s underperformance against major currencies, particularly the Dollar.
During his campaign tour in Kintampo East on Sunday, July 16, Kennedy Agyapong, who also serves as the Assin Central lawmaker, emphasized the importance of conducting a clean campaign.
He vowed to respond to every allegation made against him, warning of potential difficulties if the campaign turned contentious.
“You call yourself a strategist but when we were taking over power the Dollar was 4 Cedis, today One Dollar is Twelve Cedis and yet you call yourself a strategist.
“In March 2022 I had 40 million Dollars in Cedi equivalent, in August 2022 the value of the 40 million dollars had dropped to 16 million.”
