Reports in the Turkish media sighted by InsiderGH.com suggests that Christian Atsu, a 31-year-old Ghanaian striker who plays for Hatayspor, in Turkey, and who was missing under the rubble (as reported earlier) as a result of the magnitude earthquake, has been found alive but injured.
Portuguese outlet A Bola have reported that Atsu has now been rescued from the rubble and has been transported to hospital after suffering injuries to his right foot and breathing difficulties.
Journalist Saddick Adams claimed he had been in contact with Atsu’s management team and confirmed the winger was safe. Adams had earlier tweeted that Atsu “was on the 9th floor of the collapsed building with 9 other players and 2 officials. 3 players and one official have been rescued. Officials of the club are at the site as search continues.”
Atsu’s club, Hatayspor is yet to confirm the emerging story that he has been found alive.
The sporting director, Taner Savut, and a club interpreter were also uncontactable.
The rescue teams managed to find the footballers Onur Ergun and Burak Oksuz alive, while Kerim Alici managed to get out from under the rubble by his own means. Portuguese Rúben Ribeiro and Cape Verdean Zé Luís are also safe.
The earthquake that shook southern Turkey and northern Syria, caused more than 2,500 deaths, according to the latest figures from local authorities, in addition to thousands of injured and displaced people.
