The former Ghana Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, H.E Alhaji Said Sinare, has raised the alarm that the downturn in the country’s economy has adversely affected the protective factors in mental health.
The charismatic public speaker and a man with Rawlings’s crowd-pulling traits cum the founder of the Zongos for NDC stated that the recklessness, poor policy implementations, and poor management of the country’s resources by the Dr. Bawumia-led Economic management team has led to a significant and unprecedented worsening of the country’s mental health illness.
The degree of economic hardship and hunger that we are currently witnessing under the stewardship of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s economic management team is unprecedented and unimaginable, he said.
Such harsh and sorry realities have significant implications for social determinants of health, particularly mental well-being. While we may not fully appreciate the plight of those who are already grappling with mental illness, individuals in good health who experience deprivation and scarcity are at a heightened risk for depression due to the lackadaisical governance exhibited by this ineffectual NPP administration, He noted to the media.
He explained further that the current dire and unexpected economic hardship, coupled with the high level of unemployment in the country will continue to inflict mental illness on more Ghanaians if not resolved by voting for Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the NDC in the December 7th, 2024 polls.
The escalating cost of medications, food, drugs, and basic amenities, the malfunctioning state of our national economy, and the deteriorating condition of our national security are all daunting predicaments that necessitate voting out NPP in Uniformism on December, 7th this year, Alhaji Said Sinare has stated.
