Tragedy struck in the Nungua-Baatsona Filling Station vicinity as residents awoke to a horrifying car crash scene that resulted in the loss of two lives.
According to an eyewitness report, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 18, 2023, around 3:00 am at Baatsona when a speeding Mercedes Benz with four occupants collided with a stationary faulty KIA truck at the side of the road.
The eyewitness further detailed that the KIA truck had been left in front of the Shell Filling Station on the Nungua-Baatsonaa stretch after experiencing a malfunctioning front tire on Friday, September 15. The truck’s driver had used a jack to support the vehicle before leaving it there.
A viral video captured the accident scene, where the eyewitness described the occupants of the Mercedes Benz as frequent users of the road who often drove at high speeds.
He revealed that the victims included two Ghanaians and two Nigerians, who had previously nearly hit him with their car.
“The truck you are seeing over here was parked there three days ago. So, I just heard a loud bang around 3-5 a.m. this morning. When I came out, the Benz was coming from the Ecobank direction, and these people; they are two male Nigerians and two female Ghanaians; they usually drive at top speed on this road after drinking. They almost knocked me down three days ago when I was going to Dansoman,” the eyewitness recounted to a GhanaWeb reporter.
He further explained that the Benz driver, unaware of the faulty truck, attempted to swerve but ultimately crashed into the truck’s passenger side, resulting in the tragic loss of a man and a woman. The driver and another female passenger survived the crash but sustained critical injuries.
