Former president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has set his sights on the Member of Parliament position for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
Local media reports indicate that Nyantakyi has been inundated with calls from the people of Ejisu urging him to represent them in parliament following the unfortunate passing of John Kumah.
Hailing from Kwaso in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal district on his paternal side, Nyantakyi automatically qualifies to vie for the seat.
Sources reveal that Nyantakyi intends to compete in the primaries under the banner of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This new developments finally confirms longstanding rumors about Nyantakyi’s ties to the NPP during his tenure as FA president. Despite declining numerous previous calls to run for parliament, particularly from Ejisu constituents, Nyantakyi’s sudden change of heart has caught many off guard.
Nyantakyi’s popularity in the Ejisu constituency is undeniable, evident from his ownership of a thriving fan club with a substantial following and his efforts in youth empowerment.
Interestingly, reports suggest that Nyantakyi is favored over the late Ejisu MP’s wife by high-ranking government officials.
Unless there’s a last-minute change of plans, Nyantakyi appears poised to clinch victory in the primaries and subsequently in the bye-election for Ejisu.
