Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has addressed the economic challenges facing Ghana, emphasizing that these issues are part of a global trend.
Speaking at a meeting with the clergy in the Central Region during his campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia underscored that the high cost of living is not unique to Ghana.
“It is very clear that the cost of living has gone up across the world. Even when I was in Canada just a few weeks ago, there were similar complaints,” Bawumia stated, illustrating the widespread nature of the issue.
He noted that the world is currently experiencing significant economic turbulence, with global inflation rates having increased fivefold.
“There has been a major increase in the cost of living, and global inflation has increased fivefold, so there is a problem,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia assured the clergy that the government is actively addressing these economic challenges. He acknowledged the impact of the high cost of living on Ghanaians but reiterated that this is a worldwide phenomenon.
