The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong refutation in response to recent claims made by national chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, concerning the arrest of three individuals in the Awutu Senya East Constituency.
In a video circulating on social media, Mr. Nketia alleged that the Accra Regional Police Commander, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and the Inspector-General of Police had informed him that the arrests were executed under directives from higher authorities.
However, the police have unequivocally denied these allegations. “We would like to categorically state that the claims are false and without any basis,” stated a police spokesperson. “None of the officers mentioned in the video has at any point in time made any such pronouncement.”
The police clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrests, explaining that the three suspects were apprehended when a Pump Action gun with four rounds of ammunition was discovered in their vehicle.
The incident occurred at the offices of the Electoral Commission in Ofaakor, within the Awutu Senya East constituency of the Central region. Following standard procedures, the suspects were cautioned and subsequently granted bail.
