Chairman of the Eastern Regional Legal Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Isaac Minta Larbi believes that honest leaders is what Ghana needs in order to develop.
According to him, the governance structure of a country does not necessarily determine the kind of progress it makes but rather, it is the honesty of the people that determines it.
He made reference to Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger who are currently under military rule, stressing that the military regimes in these three nations are giving their people good governance today than they had under democracy.
According to him, one key thing we all need to know is that the catalyst underlying the heavy development and progress of all developed countries is honesty.
He added that in Ghana, hardly do you hear people preach and promote honesty despite the fact that it is the number one reason and the key to massive development.
He further stated that without honesty no country would develop. L
According to him, until majority of Ghanaians decide to be honest in their dealings with others the nation would never develop and even the little development that comes may be destroyed because of dishonest behavior.
He also urged pastors and imams to be preaching about honesty everyday.
Below is his full post;
HONESTY IS WHAT YOU NEED TO BUILD A NATION
The governance structure of a country does not necessarily determine the kind of progress you make. It is the honesty of the people that determines it.
Coup detat in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger is giving them good governance today than they had under democracy.
The Chinese and Russians don’t have the kind of democracy we are practicing but they are on top of the world.
Our democracy in Ghana now is wrecking havoc on us because of the high levels of dishonesty in Ghana.
We just need honest people and it won’t matter the kind of governance structure we have and Ghana will soon reach the top of the world.
Therefore all of us should decide to be honest, teach our children to be honest and spread honesty everywhere in Ghana so we can start reaping the benefits of tremendous development.
I’ve always wanted to write an article with the title “Honesty as a Tool for Development” but I’ve never had the chance to do so. I hope one day I’ll get the chance.
One key thing we all need to know is that the catalyst underlying the heavy development and progress of all developed countries is honesty.
In Ghana hardly do you hear people preach and promote honesty anymore but it is the no. 1 reason and the key to massive development.
Without honesty no country would develop. You will only have a country full of suffering like Ghana.
Until the majority of us decide to be honest in our dealings with others we would never develop and even the little development that comes our way we will destroy it because of our dishonest behavior.
Our pastors and imams need to be preaching about honesty everyday but unfortunately it is no longer a part of their syllables. It is now about prosperity. Meanwhile the good book will tell you the love for money is the root of all evil so I wonder why prosperity would be so much on their lips.
Today when we talk about blessings all that we are talking about is money. We forget about good health, good family, principles of honesty and contentment, the blessings of old age, fighting for a good cause which can benefit so many people, principles of humility, respect, orderliness, good housekeeping, proper hygiene standards, and the many many good virtues of life that need to be inculcated into the lives of our children, adults and even strangers so we can have a better society full of people who are content with what they have and are prepared to use good ways to improve in life instead of taking advantage of people, cheating people, defrauding people, taking what doesn’t belong to them, lying, engaging in deceit, bullying, abuse of power and all the vices and evils that destroy the soul of a man even before he dies.
We need good people in Ghana and out of that we would have good leaders and all of us will have a good country.
Honesty has produced millions of people who are very rich and it is this kind of riches that earns the respect of God and our ancestors.
We need to change the direction of this country, change the narrative and the orientation of people, and teach people how to use honesty to be rich so this country can get back on its feet and on the right track.
Let us go back to the days when honesty was our way of life and trust me all of us will prosper and have a good life.
