Daniel Bugri Naabu, the ex-Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has shed light on his engagements with high-ranking police officials who discussed their intention to replace the incumbent Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akufo-Dampare, from his position.
He directed them to seek assistance from spiritual practitioners known as “mallams,” as he believed that divine intervention played a significant role in leadership positions.
Bugri Naabu explained that if they aimed to secure the IGP position, seeking spiritual favor through these means was essential.
Bugri Naabu shared this information during his appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee on August 28, 2023.
The committee has been established to investigate this issue.
The former NPP Northern Regional Chairman gained substantial attention when an audio recording surfaced, revealing senior police officers discussing a plot to remove the current IGP, George Akufo-Dampare.
Given the nature of the conversation involving high-ranking police officers, the leaked tape sparked a nationwide discussion.
In response to public concern, Parliament formed the Ad-Hoc Committee, chaired by Samuel Atta-Akyea, the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South.
This committee’s mandate is to explore both the authenticity of the leaked tape and the intricate allegations that have captured the nation’s focus.
