Adama Sulemana, the Member of Parliament for Tain, in the Bono Region of Ghana, has raised concerns about being under siege in his constituency.
He cited the presence of over 30 FPU officers from Accra at the EC’s office in Tain as the reason for his apprehension.
Sulemana told GhanaWeb in an interview that individuals from Dwenem, Japekrom, Techiman, and Sunyani, have been brought in by bus to illegally transfer their votes there.
He also reported that a bus from Techiman was currently en route to Tain for the same purpose, and that police had resorted to violence against residents at the EC’s center.
In the interview with GhanaWeb, he expressed his distress, saying, “I am under siege. As I speak to you, they have brought police from Accra to intimidate and assault my people.”
According to Sulemana, the transfer of individuals from Dwenem, Japekrom, Techiman, Sunyani, and Berekum is being orchestrated by the NPP parliamentary candidate.
“They have barricaded the area, and the FPU personnel forcibly removed me when I attempted to enter the EC’s premises. They have also physically harmed my supporters.
“They arrived in 3 pickup trucks, and there are approximately 30 of them,” he added.
GhanaWeb subsequently contacted the EC’s district officer for confirmation, but he stated that he was not allowed to provide interviews to the media.
However, he mentioned that there are specific procedures in place to verify an individual’s eligibility to transfer votes, including interviews and document verification.
