Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed profound gratitude to the people of the Volta Region and Ghanaians at large for their overwhelming support for the NDC in the just-ended general elections.
Speaking on the party’s performance, Hon. Gunu lauded Voltarians for reaffirming their status as the “world bank” of the NDC, delivering a resounding victory for the party’s presidential candidate, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC parliamentary candidates.
In the presidential election, John Dramani Mahama secured an impressive 584,234 valid votes, representing 90.11% of the total valid votes cast in the Volta Region. His closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 56,699 votes, representing 8.75%.
“This overwhelming endorsement of John Dramani Mahama is a testament to the trust and confidence Voltarians and Ghanaians have in his vision for a better Ghana. Your votes are a call to action, and we in the NDC are committed to delivering on that mandate,” Hon. Gunu stated.
He also commended the exceptional performance of the NDC parliamentary candidates, whose hard work ensured the party retained its stronghold in the region while contributing significantly to the party’s performance nationwide.
Hon. Gunu extended his heartfelt appreciation to the chiefs, traditional leaders, youth groups, market women, and all NDC supporters who played pivotal roles in mobilizing votes. He praised their dedication to the cause of the NDC and their unwavering commitment to its ideals.
He further urged party members and supporters to remain united and resolute in the wake of the elections, emphasizing that the NDC’s success was a collective effort. “The journey to transforming Ghana is a shared responsibility.” he said.
Hon. Gunu also reiterated the NDC’s commitment to addressing the pressing needs of Ghanaians, particularly in the areas of economic recovery, job creation, and social development. He assured supporters that John Mahama and the NDC leadership remain steadfast in their dedication to building a more inclusive and prosperous Ghana.
