Hon. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has successfully concluded a vigorous two-day campaign tour across the Akatsi North constituency, focusing on direct engagement with communities to outline the NDC’s policies ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The tour, which took place on September 27 and 28, 2024, was characterized by spirited interactions, as Gunu sought to win over voters with a message of hope and transformation under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Day 1: Addressing Key Stakeholders
On the first day, Mr. Gunu started his campaign with a meeting with motor riders and their leadership, highlighting the NDC’s plans to uplift the transport sector. In a post on his official Facebook page, Hon. Gunu emphasized the party’s commitment to improving safety, job security, and the livelihoods of riders.
He noted that these workers are vital to local economies and deserve better policies to enhance their welfare under an NDC government.
The campaign then moved to Ave Havi, where Hon. Gunu and his team were warmly received by community members. Discussions centered on job creation, agriculture, the 24-hour economy, and education. He reassured the people that rural communities like Ave Havi would benefit directly from the NDC’s policies, which are designed to address the unique challenges faced by such areas.
The tour proceeded through Ashiagborvi and Metsrikasa, with Mr. Gunu delivering the NDC’s message of hope. In each community, residents expressed enthusiasm for the NDC’s plans for infrastructure development and social programs.
He noted the overwhelming support for Mahama’s vision of a fair and prosperous Ghana, which he said was evident throughout the day’s engagements.
The final stops on Day 1 were Gborglakope and Atsata-Bame, where Mr. Gunu reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to resources for rural communities. He praised the high turnout at Atsata-Bame, despite the late hour, and said the positive energy from the community reinforced his belief that “together, we will achieve great progress for the people of Akatsi North.”
Day 2: Momentum Builds in Rural Communities
The second day of the campaign, September 28, 2024, saw Gunu and his team continue their outreach to five more communities: Avega, Ando, Adave, Avevi, and Ave-Seva. In Avega, Gunu shared the NDC’s plans for rural development and improving livelihoods under Mahama’s leadership.
A key highlight of the visit was the announcement that several former members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Avega had defected to the NDC. Mr. Gunu expressed gratitude to Torgbui Misu III, the Dufia of Avega, and his council of elders for their support and hospitality.
From Avega, Hon. Gunu’s team proceeded to Ando, where the NDC’s message of hope, opportunity, and progress was met with excitement. The team received overwhelming support from the community, which, according to Gunu, is eager for a government that truly prioritizes their needs.
Further engagements in Adave, Avevi, and Ave-Seva reinforced the NDC’s promise to deliver people-centered policies that would address the socio-economic challenges of the constituency. He reiterated the party’s pledge to transform lives in Akatsi North, the Volta Region, and Ghana at large.
Strong Community Support Despite Challenges
Despite a rainy start to Day 2, Hon. Gunu remained undeterred, using social media to reaffirm his commitment to connecting with every household in the constituency. “Not even the rain can stop us! We’re committed to spreading the good works and policies of the NDC and H.E. John Dramani Mahama,” he posted on Facebook.
The two-day campaign has set the stage for a stronger NDC presence in Akatsi North, with Hon. Gunu drawing significant support from the local communities. His message of inclusive growth, job creation, and rural development resonated deeply, building momentum for the party as it pushes toward the 2024 elections.
