Today marks a crucial juncture in the high treason case involving ACP Benjamin Agordzo and others, as the three-member panel is set to deliver its judgment today, January 24, 2024.
Dating back to 2019, the charges against ACP Agordzo, the late Dr. Mac Palm, and eight co-accused include conspiracy to commit high treason and high treason, following a police operation at the Citadel hospital.
This operation linked the accused to an alleged plot aimed at destabilizing the nation. The prosecution, supported by 13 witnesses, including Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) officers, presented compelling evidence, such as video footage, depicting the accused planning activities, including the alleged manufacturing of ammunition.
Despite their unanimous plea of not guilty and the completion of their defense, the impending judgment carries immense weight, potentially leading to severe consequences, including the possibility of a death sentence if found guilty according to constitutional provisions.
The culmination of this trial has been a lengthy process, featuring the unfortunate passing of one of the accused, Dr. Mac Palm, last year. His testimony was subsequently removed from the case.
