Felix Owusu-Adjapong, a prominent figure within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Majority Leader, has passed away at the age of 79.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, officially announced the former Parliament leader’s death via his social media platform. In his post, Annoh-Dompreh not only confirmed the sad news but also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Felix Owusu, offering his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
“Deep condolences to the family…Former Majority leader, Hon. Felix Owusu passed on,” Annoh-Dompreh posted.
Felix Kwasi Owusu-Adjapong, born on February 13, 1944, served as the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru in the Eastern Region. He also held the position of Minister for Energy during his distinguished career.
Owusu-Agyapong was a member of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Parliament of Ghana. His political journey began in 1996 when he was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, securing a total of 15,824 votes, which accounted for 45.30% of the valid votes cast that year.
In the 2000 Ghanaian general elections, he was re-elected with a substantial majority, receiving 14,614 votes, which constituted 56.80% of the votes cast. In February 2001, he assumed the role of Minister for Transport and Communications, later becoming the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in April 2003.
Owusu-Adjapong continued to serve his constituency in the 2004 general elections, where he garnered 21,048 votes, translating to 66.94% of the total votes cast that year.
In 2007, he resigned from his ministerial position to pursue the NPP’s presidential nomination, although this endeavor did not yield success.
He chose not to contest his parliamentary seat in the 2008 General Elections, and Joseph Ampomah Bosompem secured victory for the NPP with a majority of 8,469 votes.
In June 2008, he assumed the role of Minister of Energy, holding this post until the end of John Agykum Kufuor’s government in January 2009.
