Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a hopeful contender for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer position, has reportedly been urged by the party’s leadership to issue an apology to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This request came in response to Agyapong’s earlier threat to confront the President.
Adakabre Frimpong Manso, the host of Neat FM’s “Me Man Nti,” revealed that this appeal was made during Agyapong’s appearance before the party’s disciplinary committee.
However, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central staunchly declined to offer the requested apology.
“As a party you could not take a firm position to say Kwame Akompreko did this and that so this.
“He came before you and as elders you were asking him to go and beg the president. So if he goes to beg the president the party would not have any other initiative to take?
“Now you watch him tell it to your face that he won’t beg the president today or tomorrow. Is that not disgraceful to you?” he stated on the September 1 2023, edition of his show.
The incident in question occurred amid the intense atmosphere surrounding the NPP’s Special Delegates Election on August 26, 2023. A video captured Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful, launching a verbal attack on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also vying for the party’s flagbearer position.
Kennedy Agyapong’s outburst was prompted by alleged threats and intimidation directed towards his campaign agents, leading him to threaten a “showdown” with both high-ranking party members.
Consequently, Agyapong was summoned and subjected to a grueling five-hour interrogation by the NPP’s disciplinary committee. However, details of the meeting have not yet been made public.
In the meantime, the NPP has scheduled its national delegates congress for November 4, 2023, where the party will elect its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
