Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has accused the late investigative journalist Ahmed Suale, who was associated with Tiger Eye, of attempting to set up Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Kennedy Agyapong claims that Suale was used as a front for senior investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ investigations.
According to him, Ahmed Suale’s actions were aimed at entrapping Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister at the time. Agyapong revealed that the then Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, warned Ofori-Atta after seeing a video related to the matter.
He went on to explain that Ahmed Suale and his team intended to meet Ofori-Atta in Dubai but that the Finance Minister snubbed them after seeing the video. Agyapong stated that he exposed the face of Ahmed Suale, connecting him to Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which led to Ofori-Atta’s avoidance of the situation.
Kennedy Agyapong criticized Ahmed Suale’s approach to investigative journalism, stating that he lacked the level of discretion and anonymity that Anas Aremeyaw Anas maintained. He claimed that Suale’s public exposure made him vulnerable to potential attacks from those he embarrassed through his work.
Ahmed Suale was tragically shot dead near his family home in Accra on January 16, 2019. His family believes that his assassination was linked to his investigative work. Agyapong had faced suspicion from the public due to his actions of revealing Suale’s identity prior to his death. Despite the passage of four years, the culprits behind Suale’s death have not been identified by the police.
