Prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has announced his commitment to supporting his primary contender, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, should he lose in the upcoming November 4 presidential primaries.
Kennedy Agyapong emphasized the importance of a clean and fair competition and pledged to stand behind Dr. Bawumia if he secures victory without resorting to divisive tactics.
During a candid interview on Kessben TV on September 18, 2023, Agyapong acknowledged that he could choose not to support the NPP in the 2024 elections if the ongoing attacks against him persist.
He stated, “If the vice president emerges as the winner, I would support him. It will be difficult, but I have no choice.”
Kennedy Agyapong, known for his outspoken nature, expressed concern for his 22 children, aged 63, who are exposed to various allegations against him.
Kennedy Agyapong, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Assin Central Constituency, accused supporters of Vice President Dr. Bawumia of labeling actions he took in defense of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government as “sins.”
He reiterated that if the vilification campaign against him persists, he may reconsider his support for the party in the event of his defeat in the presidential primaries.
Kennedy Agyapong’s candid remarks highlight the prevailing tensions within the NPP and the challenges faced by aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer position as the nation approaches the crucial 2024 elections.
