Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has expressed his congratulations to his party for their victory in the recent Assin North by-election, hailing it as a significant achievement.
The Assin North constituency by-election saw the NDC emerge victorious, securing their hold on the seat. Anyidoho took to social media on June 29, 2023, to extend his congratulations to the party.
In a similar vein, Anyidoho acknowledged the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) success in the Kumawu by-election, stating that both parties maintained their seats in the two by-elections.
On June 27, 2023, the Electoral Commission officially announced James Gyakye Quayson as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Assin North constituency.
Quayson secured a significant victory, garnering 17,245 votes, which accounted for 57.56% of the total votes cast.
Charles Opoku of the NPP emerged as the closest contender, receiving 12,630 votes, equivalent to 42.15% of the votes. Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) secured 87 votes, representing 0.29% of the overall tally.
The by-election in Assin North aimed to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant due to a legal dispute questioning Quayson’s eligibility to hold office based on concerns regarding his dual citizenship.
