The Ministry of Health (MoH), has said the appointment of an Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ho Teaching Hospital was done by the Governing Board of the hospital without any consultation with the Ministry.
This was contained in a letter by the Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu to the Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital.
According to the MoH, in taking major decisions such as the appointment of an Acting CEO, the Governing Board needed to undertake a broader consultation with its key stakeholders such as the Health Minister.
However, the appointment of the current Acting CEO, Dr Emmanuel Senyo Kasu was done without any consultation with the MoH.
Dr Kasu was appointed as acting CEO when the former CEO, Dr John Tampouri, was attaining the compulsory age for retirement on Thursday, 25 May 2023.
The new Acting CEO was therefore, to take over from Dr Tampouri until the appointment of a substantive CEO.
“The Ministry of Health believes that looking at the Track record of Dr John Tampouri, “his meritorious leadership and contribution towards the development of the Ho Teaching Hospital” and the sacrifices he has made over the years, Dr Tampouri needs some recognition,” the letter to the Governing Board of the Hospital stated.
It therefore requested the “Governing Board to reverse its letter appointing an Acting Chief Executive Officer to the Hospital,” while recommending that Dr Tampouri act as “the Chief Executive Officer till the Ministry of Health gives further directives.”
