President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to resolving high-profile murder cases, including the killing of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
During a meeting with Ghana Bar Association (GBA) leader Efua Ghartey on March 26, 2025, Mahama emphasized the urgency of thorough investigations and swift prosecution of suspects.
“Investigations into significant killings and murders that have remained uninvestigated. I have urged the police and the investigation organisations to look more actively into such cases, like that of Ahmed Suale. That is why a first suspect has been arrested, and we are hoping that his interrogation will lead to further arrests of people,” he stated.
Mahama also highlighted the unresolved murder of former MP JB Danquah, calling for expedited investigations to ensure justice and closure for such cases.
Beyond addressing unresolved murders, the President urged the Ghana Bar Association to remain vigilant in scrutinizing government policies and holding leadership accountable for national progress.
During the courtesy visit, Mahama commended the GBA for its dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting constitutional freedoms.
“You have been a strong advocate for the rule of law, respect for human rights, the constitution, and freedoms. I believe that the role you play is important for our society to progress,” he said.
He further encouraged civil society and legal professionals to speak up when governance is off track.
“As I have told civil societies, they must have the freedom to point out when things are not going in a way they should. Just like we say in our local parlance, ‘if a person is charting a path, he may not know that it is crooked,’” Mahama noted.
