President-elect John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a committee to oversee the implementation of his ambitious 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.
Among the key initiatives in this plan is the “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL), a flagship anti-corruption program aimed at investigating misappropriation, recovering stolen state assets, and prosecuting offenders.
Speaking during a courtesy call by members of the Apostolic Fathers, Mr. Mahama expressed confidence in the feasibility of his 120-day plan.
“We have carefully selected the things that we thought were achievable in 120 days. We will work diligently to ensure that, at the end of this period, we can check each of them off. I will soon inaugurate a committee focused on achieving these goals,” he stated.
Raising Accountability to New Heights
The incoming president emphasized his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, citing it as a constitutional obligation.
“We want to raise accountability to another level. It’s in our constitution to uphold the principles of probity and accountability,” Mr. Mahama noted.
He elaborated on the importance of public accountability, stating, “If you run your own private business, you can do so however you wish. But if taxpayers place you in office, funded by their hard-earned money, you must be prepared to account for the trust they have placed in you.”
Mr. Mahama described the 120-day plan as a “last chance to get things right” and reiterated his commitment to restoring trust in Ghana’s democracy.
Clergy Offers Support and Encouragement
Archbishop Duncan Williams, founder of Action Chapel International and a member of the Apostolic Fathers, offered his support to the president-elect. Reflecting on earlier prophecies about Mr. Mahama’s leadership journey, the Archbishop prayed for strength and wisdom for him to fulfill his mandate.
“By God’s grace, who preserved you and ensured you lived to see this day, He will guide you, protect you, and give you what it takes to lead this nation,” the clergyman said.
The Archbishop also urged Mr. Mahama to focus on transforming the country and rewriting what he described as the “negative narrative” surrounding Ghana’s governance.
Fighting Corruption and Restoring Trust
The incoming NDC government has placed fighting corruption at the center of its agenda. Mr. Mahama pledged to ensure public officeholders are held accountable and prevent the misuse of state resources for personal gain.
The 120-day agenda signals the incoming administration’s determination to restore public confidence in the democratic process through bold and decisive actions, starting with tackling corruption and enhancing transparency.
This initiative represents a critical first step in the new government’s efforts to rebuild Ghana’s economy and governance systems, prioritizing the needs and trust of the Ghanaian people.
