Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has shed light on the ongoing saga involving the former Minister of Sanitation and Housing, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and the alleged misappropriation of funds totaling $1 million, 800,000 euros, and an undisclosed amount of cedis.
Speaking on TV3’s Key Point program, Kpebu revealed that he possesses certain information about the case that contradicts the statement provided by the Attorney-General.
Kpebu disputed the A-G’s assertion that the police made an error by attributing the entire $1 million to Cecilia Dapaah in the charge sheet. He stated that the documents available to him support the police’s claim, and he also noted that Cecilia Dapaah had reported the case last year.
He recounted that despite repeated advice from her lawyers to drop the case, Cecilia Dapaah insisted on pursuing it, even though she was warned about potential consequences.
While acknowledging that mistakes can happen within the police, Kpebu expressed skepticism about the claim that this was one such mistake. He said, “I don’t believe that it was a mistake. I don’t buy it because I happened to understand a few more of the facts which are not in the public domain.”
Kpebu disclosed that Cecilia Dapaah had been expressing distress about the money involved in the case since last year. He mentioned that she provided emotional testimony in court, but her case was not centered on money. Despite this, he believes that something significant was discovered during a search.
“The court kept saying that madam you’ve not brought a case of money to this court. This is not a mistake. Wait for the OSP. After the search they found something significant. What I know is no consistent with what the A-G is saying. Madam Dapaah was crying about this money last year,” he said.
The Attorney-General’s Office has previously issued legal advice to the police on the theft case involving Cecilia Abena Dapaah. The advice called for further investigations into the reported monies and suggested adjustments to the charges brought against the accused parties.
