The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has temporarily suspended the Medical Director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba following allegations that a patient was abandoned in a bush at Gomoa Ojobi.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting held at the GHS Headquarters on Friday, June 14, 2024.
The meeting, which included the Medical Director, sought to address the incident. While the Medical Director acknowledged the occurrence, he disputed several details as reported by the media.
To ensure a thorough and impartial investigation, the GHS has established a committee to scrutinize the incident. The committee comprises the Deputy Director-General of GHS, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon from the Ridge Hospital, representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Social Welfare Department, and a senior Nurse Manager.
To avoid any potential influence over the investigation and to ensure full access to all pertinent information, the GHS decided to temporarily relieve the Medical Director of his duties.
The GHS has committed to taking appropriate actions based on the committee’s findings, aiming to address the situation and hold any responsible parties accountable.
