Formerly holding the position of Minority Chief Whip and representing the Asawase Constituency in Parliament, Hon Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has provided insight into the circumstances leading to his removal from his parliamentary role.
He clarified that the prior Minority Leadership had opted to adopt a neutral stance concerning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairmanship contest involving Mr. Asiedu Nketiah and Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, which was slated for the party’s National Executive Congress.
According to Hon Muntaka, certain senior members of the party had approached the parliamentary leadership, urging them to encourage Asiedu Nketiah to withdraw his candidacy for the position of National Chairman, with the intention of fostering collaboration between the two contenders.
Unfortunately, their intervention did not yield positive results. Consequently, the decision was reached for the parliamentary leadership to maintain impartiality in the party’s internal electoral process.
Tensions escalated when the Minority faction disassociated itself from the assertion that the NDC parliamentary caucus was endorsing Mr. Nketiah.
Hon Muntaka stressed that, even if presented with a second opportunity, he would stand by his choice to remain neutral in similar situations, upholding his principles.
This leadership transition led to Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson assuming the mantle of the new Minority Leader, Kofi Armah Boah stepping into the role of Deputy Minority Leader, and Kwame Agbodza taking up the position of Chief Whip in lieu of Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak.
