In an embarrassing turn of events, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia faced disapproval from residents of Teshie in Accra during the inauguration of a newly constructed artificial pitch in the area.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia encountered a challenging moment as some Teshie residents voiced their discontent during the unveiling of a newly constructed artificial pitch in the locality.
This facility, a collaborative effort between former Member of Parliament of Ledzokuku, Bernard Okoe-Boye, and the Ghana Gas company, was officially launched on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the guest of honor at the event, faced a difficult reception as he arrived at the venue, where some attendees expressed their dissatisfaction with him and his government.
A video circulating on social media captured a group of spectators chanting slogans against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Among the chants was a particular song that roughly translates to, “Nana Akuffo Addo, we are suffering, but have you noticed your bald head? We will slap it.” This vocal disapproval of the government figures highlighted the challenges they face in garnering local support.
The artificial pitches are part of the government’s efforts to address longstanding infrastructure issues within the sporting sector. Both the Ghana National Petroleum Commission and the Ghana Gas Company have played pivotal roles in the construction of these Astro-turf facilities.
It’s worth noting that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is actively seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections. To secure this position, Bawumia will have to face off against Kennedy Agyapong in the party’s primaries scheduled for November 4, 2023.
