Joseph Yammin, the National Organizer for opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused a known member of his party of accepting Ghc50 from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in exchange for voting for their candidate in the recently concluded Kumawu By-Election.
“A known member of the NDC in Kumawu took Ghc 50 and voted for the NPP. When we confronted him he was bold to tell us that he is not wicked and that since he has taken money from the other side, there is no way he can vote against them,” He stated.
Yammin expressed his dismay over the prevalence of vote-buying during the elections held yesterday, May 23, 2023.
He emphasized that the actions taken by the NPP in the Kumawu elections have set an unfavorable precedent for politics and democracy in Ghana.
Yammin believes that this trend will lead to a future where voters demand cash before exercising their right to vote, instead of focusing on important policy issues and developmental programs crucial for the progress of the country.
The Kumawu by-election became necessary following the unfortunate passing of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Philip Basoah.
